Director of Information Management
Communication: Communication is key, we’ve heard it hundreds of times, and yet we still find ourselves having trouble communicating effectively. In the Air Force, good communication makes operations more efficient, saves lives, and completes the mission. Without it there is trouble. The same is true with Arnold Air Society; if we don’t communicate we don’t accomplish the mission. We need to use all available resources to communicate effectively. If selected, I will push to utilize three communication resources.
The first resource is the new online database and it will solve a majority of our communication issues. Proper utilization includes, but is by no means limited to: a national level email that will go out to every member of the society, area level emails, current contact lists for squadron staffs and area staffs, and submission of all forms (officer rosters, new initiates, equipment order, etc).
The next resource is the website. Thanks to the Internet Communications National Advising Consultant (NAC), Neil Mickelson, a new website is currently in the stages of finishing touches. It is powered by wordpress which enables staff members to accomplish their own updates, leaving the webmaster to actually do web design. Area staffs will have the option to host as site off the national page or be linked to their personally designed site. The forum is another great medium for communication. However, forcing people to use is not the answer. Instead, a “discuss it” option will be included after articles published on the website, in the national email, in area emails, and other commonly viewed resources. Better awareness of the forum should spark conversation on different topics.
The final communication resource that I believe is key to the accomplishment of the AAS mission is direct contact by phone. Personal contact creates a bond the promotes responsibility. Everyone knowing their counterparts on a personal level will enhance morale and bring about a strong desire to get the job done.
Accountability: This coming year Fall Renewal Packets will be done completely online. Therefore, the submission of these packets on time should be much easier. If selected I will strive for a national goal of 75% of packets submitted on time. This is a lofty goal compared past years submission rates, but it will be attainable through online submissions.
Feedback: It is just as important that communication flows up the chain and not just down the chain. Our proposed staff has left feedback cards on your chair to fill out to give your input on where the society needs to go. The opportunity to give feedback will not stop there. In addition to the normal chain of command, quick online entries for AAS and the AFROTC Affairs Committee will be available.
