National Director of Training

Valuable Training: Entering into Member Candidate Season (MCS) is the first of many decisions cadets make to go beyond average cadets in better themselves as officer candidates. MCS is usually the first place for advanced training. We must seize this opportunity to turn the average cadet into an Arnold Air Society member. For Candidate Training Programs to be positive and beneficial they must adhere to two guidelines. The first is set forth by AFOATS and AFRTOC, called the AFOATS Training Manual (ATM). This is the guideline for all Air Force Training, including Basic Training, Detachment Training, and Field Training. The second is the AASMAN. The society sets this guideline for the benefit of candidates. If selected, I would insure that Area Directors of Training hold their CTOs accountable to the ATM and the AASMAN. Training programs done right can produce amazing officer candidates. If selected, I will publish examples of the society’s top candidate training programs, including the LBJ cup winner.

Enlarge: Our budget is quite large and we plan to have many awards, including awards for squadron growth. The squadrons who increase in size the most (based on a percentage increase), will be eligible for these awards. Also, in order not to substitute quantity for quality, awards will factor in the quality of their candidates in many fields including: PFT scores, GPA’s, and candidate interviews.

Another way not to sacrifice quantity for quality is to form new squadrons and reactivate inactive squadrons. If selected, we will contact detachment cadre to expand recruitment. By talking with the cadre of these detachments, we will ensure them that by forming an AAS squadron at their detachment the quality of their cadets will increase. Cadets that are willing to join will be guided through their formation. We will make sure (even if they need aid from higher headquarters) they have representatives attend their respective ARCON and attend NATCON. This will give them the big picture view of Arnold Air Society and motivate them to bring excellence to their squadron.

The quantity of AFROTC cadets is lowering across the nation, however the quality of cadets is rising. This means the percent of AFROTC cadets in Arnold Air Society should be increasing. AAS is made up of the finest cadets in the nation, but there are always areas to improve. We must continue to complete our mission to produce the best officer candidates for the Air Force.
